A man has been flown to hospital after an explosion which destroyed a boat on the Caledonian Canal.

He suffered burns to his face and body in the incident at 1pm on Tuesday and was taken to Raigmore Hospital by helicopter.

Most of the boat was destroyed when a cooking canister exploded aboard in the Laggan Locks area of Spean Bridge.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We had a request from the Scottish Ambulance Service at 1.02pm to attend the Laggan Locks after an explosion on a boat.

"One casualty was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness with burns to his face and torso".
