Firefighters stopped a kitchen fire spreading through a row of terraced houses in Fort William.

Two teams were deployed to Kennedy Street on Thursday evening after the fire started at about 6.55pm.

Using high pressure jets, the crews quickly stopped the fire on the first floor from spreading to neighbouring homes. No one was hurt in the incident.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service group manager Pat McElhinney praised his crews' response.

He said: "The quick actions of our crews certainly prevented this fire from escalating.

"Had it not been for their effective response the fire would have spread through the property and could have moved into the adjacent homes."

Investigators are working to establish the cause of the fire, which is not thought to be suspicious.
