A pilot was rescued from his crashed microlight after a failed landing near Inverness.

The two-seater kit Pegasus Quik aircraft bounced twice and rolled on to its side at Culbokie Airfield in June.

Its 39-year-old pilot suffered minor injuries and was helped from the microlight by a passer-by.

A report published on Thursday said the crash is believed to have happened because the pilot flared too high and may have been hit by wind shear from nearby trees.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch said: "Upon landing, the aircraft bounced twice and, despite the pilot attempting a go-around on the second bounce, the left wingtip struck the ground causing the aircraft to roll on to its side.

"The pilot, who was wearing a helmet and three-point harness, suffered minor injuries but was able to vacate the aircraft with the assistance of a passerby."

In August, a microlight crashed in a field while attempting to land at a private airstrip in Aberdeenshire.
