A polar bear at a Scottish zoo has been removed from public display as she may be pregnant.

Victoria mated with a male bear at the Highland Wildlife Park earlier this year and keepers in Kingussie are keeping a close eye on her condition.

If she does give birth, it would be the first time polar bear cubs have been born in the UK for almost 25 years.

There is no way to know if Victoria is pregnant at the moment as there is no test for polar bears.

She would likely give birth in late December or early January.

A spokeswoman for the Highland Wildlife Park said: "We do not know whether Victoria is pregnant or not.

"As there is no pregnancy test for polar bears, we are taking a precautionary approach and treating Victoria as if she may be, which means making sure she has as much privacy as possible and closing her enclosure to visitors."

Before they moved in together, Arktos and Victoria were seen sleeping by the fence which divided their enclosures and trying to touch through the barrier.

They later began following one another around and resting their heads each other, behaviour seen in wild polar bears during the mating process.
