Two hikers have been rescued from the Cairngorms after getting lost in a blizzard.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team went to their aid after receiving a phone call from the couple on Ben Macdui at 2.30pm on Friday.

The team helped escort them off the mountain after fighting through driving snow and high wind.

Cairngorm MRT member Willie Ross said: "We got a phone call from a couple who were a bit disorientated, they had gotten lost and called in to say they were having problems getting off the hill.

"We set off about an hour later and they had managed to get themselves pretty far down the mountain by the time we had arrived.

"The conditions were poor, it was snowing heavily with blizzard conditions. It was the first proper winter storm of the year."
