Jurors have begun a second day of deliberations in the trial of a man accused of murdering Scots police officer Gordon Semple.

Stefano Brizzi denies murdering the 59-year-old but has admitted obstructing a coroner by disposing of the body.

A three-week trial at the Old Bailey in London heard evidence from Brizzi, who claims he accidentally strangled Mr Semple during a sex game gone wrong.

The crystal meth user said Mr Semple had arranged to go to his flat on the Peabody Estate in London for sex after they met on gay dating app Grindr.

The trial also heard officers later found a bath of acid with human remains floating in it.

Brizzi allegedly told an officer: "I've tried to dissolve the body... I've killed a police officer. I killed him last week. I met him on Grindr and I killed him. Satan told me to."

The Old Bailey was told Brizzi had been inspired by the cult TV series Breaking Bad when he used the acid to dispose of Mr Semple's body.

The Italian defendant admitted he had been "selfish" by not dialling 999.

The trial was also shown CCTV of Brizzi buying buckets in Southwark after the alleged murder.

Mr Semple, who was originally from Inverness, had been with the Metropolitan Police for 30 years.

He went missing on April 1 and his remains were discovered a week later after a neighbour alerted Scotland Yard to a "smell of death" coming from a flat.
