Police Scotland are "absolutely committed" to solving the murder of a Scottish banker shot dead on his doorstep 12 years ago.

Alistair Wilson was killed at his home on Crescent Road, Nairn, on November 28, 2004.

Despite a long-running investigation, the 30-year-old's murderer has never been found and a £5000 reward for information leading to his arrest remains unclaimed.

On Monday, a police spokeswoman said: "Following a review of the Alistair Wilson murder under homicide governance processes introduced by Police Scotland, the investigation remains active and ongoing.

"We will consider all forensic and investigative opportunities.

"We remain absolutely committed to tracing the person responsible for Alistair's death and continue to ask the public for any information which might assist us."

On the tenth anniversary of his murder, Mr Wilson's widow Veronica said the decade since his death had been "extremely tough".

"It's been ten years during which his young sons started primary school and then secondary school without a father in their lives," she said.

"It's been ten years that his widow has been a single mother and the extended family left without the person we loved and cherished.

"It is difficult to achieve closure of our grief until we know why Alistair was killed, and who shot him.

"Despite years of searching for answers, the question which always remains is: 'Why?' We are confident that someone knows the identity of Alistair's killer."
