A man has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being knocked down by a car.

The 50-year-old is being treated at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where he was taken after being struck by a BMW 4x4 at 9.50am on Tuesday.

The woman driving the BMW involved in the collision on the B862 was not injured.

The road was shut between the Holm roundabout and Scaniport until around 2.30pm.

The road has been shut with diversions in place while police deal with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the man walking on the B862 in the vicinity of Holm in the direction of Dores to make contact on 101.

"Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and a further update will be issued when information is available."
