Bomb disposal experts were called to a house in Caithness after a suspicious package was found.

The item was discovered by police executing a drug search warrant, in which a man was arrested.

The raid took place at a property in the Spittal area on Sunday evening.

A precautionary 100-metre cordon was set up, leading to the closure of the A9 between Latheron and Sordale.

Diversions were put in place while specialist officers dealt with the situation and the road was later reopened at around 1am.

The 55-year-old was taken into custody in relation to drug offences.

Police Scotland thanked the public for their patience while emergency services dealt with the incident.
