A young couple rescued a hypothermic hiker by carrying him to safety in the Cairngorms.

The pair alerted emergency services after finding the man alone in the Northern Corries on Tuesday.

They then carried him for more than a mile before being met by members of the Cairngorms Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT).

The hiker was given medical treatment before being airlifted to hospital.

CMRT leader Willie Anderson described the couple as the "real heroes" of the rescue and a "great example of mountaineers helping each other".

They were assisted by instructors from Glenmore Lodge on the call-out, which was their fourth of 2017.

On New Year's Day, CMRT was involved in a search for a couple who were forced to camp out in the Cairngorms in freezing conditions after getting lost.
