A man has been left permanently scarred after being attacked with a weapon in Inverness.

He was found lying on the pavement on the corner of Craigton Avenue and Bridgeview Drive in South Kessock at 2am on New Year's Day.

The man, in his 20s, was bleeding heavily from wounds to his face and neck.

He was treated at Raigmore Hospital but will be left with permanent scars, police said.

"Shortly before 2am a member of the public found a man lying on the pavement at the junction of Craigton Avenue and Bridgeview Drive, Inverness," a force spokeswoman said.

"Police believe the injured man had been in the area of Kessock Road prior to being assaulted.

"Officers are carrying out house to house enquiries in the area to find witnesses to this incident.

"Anyone who saw the assault or has information about the circumstances is urged to contact the criminal investigation department at Burnett Road, Inverness, on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
