A climber has died after falling while descending one of the highest mountains in Scotland.

The man had been coming down the summit of Aonach Beag, a 4048ft Munro at the north side of Glen Nevis located near Fort William in the Highlands, with a friend.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team were deployed and the man was airlifted from the side of the mountain, but later died.

Police said they are liaising with the man's next of kin and a report is being prepared for the procurator fiscal. They said the identity of the climber, who is not believed to be from the local area, will be released later.

His companion was not injured in the incident in the late afternoon.
