The parents of Scottish aid worker Linda Norgrove, who died after she was kidnapped in Afghanistan, have described claims she was working for MI6 as "ludicrous".

The 36-year-old from Lewis was killed during a failed rescue attempt by US special forces in 2010.

She was kidnapped by the Taliban in Kunar Province, who demanded the release of a convict linked to al-Qaeda.

US-based website The Intercept claimed the aid worker secretly worked with MI6 which led to the operation commanding "high-level interest."

John and Lorna Norgrove, who live at Uig on Lewis, say the allegation is "hurtful".

They released a statement saying: "Linda was passionately against war, disliked the military with a vengeance and mostly sided with Afghans rather than western governments.

"She was highly principled, would not compromise on her views and the suggestion that she was working for MI6 is both ludicrous and hurtful."
