A theft from a charity food bank in the Highlands has been branded "deplorable" by police.

The Wick branch of Caithness Food Bank was broken into at some point between 4pm on Sunday and 12.15pm on Tuesday.

After the forced entrance to the premises on Lower Dunbar Street various items of food were stolen.

Police Scotland has launched an investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Area inspector Nick Clasper called the theft "deplorable".

He added: "This incident is particularly disappointing in that thieves have chosen to target a charity run by selfless volunteers to provide support to those in need within our local community."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to report it to police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
