Head teachers in parts of the Highlands will be put in charge of up to five schools each.

The plan will be rolled out across six regions in August and affect 37 primaries and secondaries.

Highland Council believes it will save money and solve problems with head teacher recruitment.

But Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch SNP MSP Kate Forbes said parents were worried about the plan.

The idea may also be extended to two other areas - Mallaig and Farr - following a consultation in March.

Ms Forbes said: "I've received a lot of correspondence from parents, teachers and others who are deeply concerned at the lack of consultation so I'm stunned that only Mallaig and Farr were exempted."

The move will affect schools connected to Kilchuimen Academy, Kinlochbervie High School, Dornoch Academy and Plockton High School, among others.
