A man's death in the Highlands 20 years ago is being re-examined by d****etectives from Police Scotland's specialist crime division.

Kevin McLeod's body was discovered in Wick harbour on February 9, 1997, following a night out with friends.

His parents, Hugh and June, believe the 24-year-old was murdered but no criminal charges have ever been made and a fatal accident inquiry returned an open verdict.

Detectives are now reassessing existing evidence gathered during two previous enquiries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We continue to engage with the McLeod family and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

Kevin's body was found in the harbour the morning after the 24-year-old went out with friends to celebrate his upcoming wedding.

Foul play was suspected when a post-mortem revealed he had suffered serious internal injuries.

Mr McLeod's parents claim the investigation into his death was flawed.

His father alleges the area where his son was found was not cordoned-off and no door-to-door enquiries were carried out.

Kevin's clothing was destroyed before it could be forensically examined, he said.
