An elderly man has died after a crash in Inverness.

At around 3pm on Monday, a blue Ford Fiesta and white Volkswagen Transporter van collided on Carse Road.

The elderly driver of the Fiesta sustained serious injuries and later died after being taken to Raigmore Hospital.

The male driver of the van was uninjured.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 101.

In a statement, Police Scotland said: "Police Scotland can confirm that a man has died following a road traffic collision on Carse Road in Inverness on Monday, October 8.

"The collision involved a blue Ford Fiesta and a white Volkswagen Transporter van. It happened around 3pm.

"The elderly male driver of the Ford Fiesta sustained serious injuries and sadly passed away after being taken to Raigmore Hospital in the city.

"The male driver of the van was uninjured.

"Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact them on 101 quoting reference NN10698/18."
