A man has been pulled from the water after plunging into a harbour.

Emergency services were called to Stornoway harbour shortly before 9.25pm on Friday.

A man fell into the water near the ferry terminal.

Medics and bystanders rescued the man before he was taken to Western Isles Hospital.

A Stornoway Coastguard spokesman said: "Stornoway Coastguard Operation Centre requested the assistance of the team after being alerted to a person in the water near the ferry terminal at Stornoway harbour.

"As the team were mobilising, we were notified that the person had been rescued by Scottish Ambulance Service and bystanders and conveyed to Western Isles Hospital."
