A man has been punched in the eye after stopping to give directions to people in an SUV.

The victim was assaulted on the A96 at Nairn on Friday at around 5.15pm.

He was walking westbound near the United Reform Church when a silver or grey SUV-type vehicle stopped and the occupants asked him for directions.

It is understood the victim leaned inside the vehicle and was punched in the eye, which left him cut

The vehicle then drove off in the queue of traffic, turning towards the Forres.

The road was busy with traffic and officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.

Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting NM/3044/18.
