A pensioner was taken to hospital after a hit-and-run in the Highlands.

The 76-year-old woman was struck by a car as she crossed the road pushing a shopping trolley in Grantown-on-Spey.

The motorist of the dark-coloured hatchback failed to stop and took off in the direction of Aviemore.

The victim subsequently required treatment for non-life threatening injuries at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

The incident happened at around 4.40pm on Friday, November 9 at The Square.

Police are appealing for witnesses and urge the driver to get in touch.

Constable Charles Mackenzie said: "We are seeking to speak to the driver of a small dark-coloured hatchback car which subsequently left the scene in the direction of Aviemore.

"I would also urge any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to get in touch as soon as possible."
