The family of a dad who was allegedly murdered have been left "absolutely devastated" over his death.

Paul Fairweather died following an incident in Thurso in the Highlands on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old was pronounced dead at an address on Holborn Avenue at 8am.

Paul Cannop, 24, has been charged with the murder and appeared at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody as the case was continued for further examination.

In a statement, Mr Fairweather's family said: "Paul was a much loved dad, son, grandson, brother, uncle and a friend to many.

"The family are absolutely devastated to have lost him and ask that they be left alone to grieve privately."

Inspector Brian Geddes said: "Our thoughts are with Mr Fairweather's family as we continue with our enquiries.

"I am also grateful for the understanding and patience of the local community while our investigation is ongoing."
