A woman has died five days after a car crash in Orkney.

The 22-year-old victim was fatally injured in a one-vehicle smash at around 7.30am on Tuesday, November 27 on the A965 at Rennibister.

She was treated at Balfour Hospital on the island but was later transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where she passed away on Sunday afternoon.

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: "Police Scotland can sadly confirm that a 22-year-old woman has died following a one-vehicle RTC in Orkney last week.

"She was treated at Balfour Hospital in Orkney before being transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

"Sadly she passed away yesterday afternoon.

"Our thoughts are with her family at this very sad time."
