A hillwalker has been found dead in the Highlands after apparently suffering a fall.

The 56-year-old man's body was discovered by a coastguard helicopter crew searching the Killilan area in Lochalsh.

A search was launched for the man when he failed to return to his camper van after setting off on a walk.

Police said the man was found with "injuries consistent with having suffered a fall".

Sergeant Andrew Shaw said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this time.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course, as is standard practice.

"I would like to thank our partners at HM Coastguard and mountain rescue for their assistance with this operation."
