A fuel tanker driver has been seriously injured after his vehicle overturned on a Highlands road.

Emergency services were called to the A87 near the Cluanie Inn at around 8.30am on Tuesday.

The driver was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by helicopter.

No-one else was injured in the crash, which led to the road being closed in both directions.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 8.33am today to attend an incident on the A87 near the Cluanie Inn.

"We dispatched two ambulances, our special operations team, a manager and our helimed air ambulance to the scene. We airlifted one male patient to Raigmore Hospital."
