A man who died in a house fire in Shetland has been named by police.

Ross Grant, 48, died when flames gripped the property in Lerwick shortly after midnight on Sunday, February 24.

Fire crews were called to the house in Burns Lane, but after extinguishing the blaze Mr Grant's body was found inside.

Police Scotland said an investigation was ongoing, but there didn't appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

In a statement, the force said: "Police in Shetland can now confirm the identity of the man who died in a fire in Lerwick on Sunday, February 24.

"He was Ross Grant, 48, from Lerwick.

"Emergency services were called to the property at Burns Lane shortly after midnight on Sunday, February 24 following a report of a well-established fire.

"The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) but sadly Mr Grant was found deceased inside the property.

"Enquiries into the fire are ongoing in conjunction with the SFRS but there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

"A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal as is standard in such cases."
