A major search is underway for a man with dementia who was has been missing overnight after getting lost while out walking.

Alistair Lovie was reported missing from the Inverarish area of the Isle of Raasay on Sunday afternoon.

The 72-year-old was last seen walking near a disused mine area north of Inverarish about 11am.

Police in Skye are growing increasingly concerned for Mr Lovie's welfare and are carrying out enquires in a bid to trace him.

When last seen he was wearing a black jacket, jeans, a black cap, a blue shirt and a red jumper.

Police Sergeant David Canning, of Portree Police Office, said: "We are growing increasingly concerned for Alistair as he suffers from dementia and is likely to have lost his way whilst out walking.

"Alistair is reasonably physically fit but he may be in a confused state.

"I would urge anyone who was walking in the Rasaay area today or who lives in the area and has seen Alistair today to contact Portree police on 101."
