A 50-year-old man has died in a diving incident off the coast of Orkney.

Emergency services were called to Scapa Flow at around 11.30am on Tuesday after concerns were raised for the man's safety.

He was taken to the Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall where he was pronounced dead.

A police spokesman said a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.

Scapa Flow is a popular spot for divers, many of whom visit the area to explore the wrecks of 74 German warships scuttled at the site after the First World War.
