Game of Thrones fans have been offered the chance to name two newborn Mishmi takin calves at the Highland Wildlife Park.

Continuing a tradition which started five years ago by the park's keepers, the female will either be crowned Brienne or Yara, while the male will be knighted Tyrion or Stark.

It is now down to the public to choose the winning names before voting closes on Sunday night.

The Mishmi takin - which is an endangered goat-antelope native to India, Myanmar and the People's Republic of China - eats bamboo and willow shoots.

The two new calves, fathered by Jorge, were born in April. The female was born to mum Chimi, while the male calf was born to Arya.

In the past, other calves have been named Khaleesi and Snow.

Debbie Barclay, hoofstock keeper at the park and species coordinator for Mishmi takin across Europe, said: "We started naming our Mishmi takin calves after Game of Thrones characters five years ago because lots of the keepers were fans of the show.

"In the past we've named calves Khaleesi, Snow and Arya.

"They are one of the largest goat-antelope species in the world and it is believed the legend of the golden fleece was inspired by their golden coat.

"Sadly, the wild population, native to India, Myanmar and China, is decreasing due to habitat loss, competition with other species and hunting, so it's reassuring to see our herd doing so well."
