The incident happened at Berriedale Braes off Caithness on Tuesday morning.
A major Highland road has been closed after an articulated lorry caught fire.
The incident happened on the A9 at Berriedale Braes on the northern coast of Caithness at around 7.50am on Tuesday.
The lorry’s cab was completely destroyed by the fire, which firefighters wearing breathing gear tackled using hose reel jets.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “An artic lorry cab and tractor unit was destroyed and the trailer was damaged.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said the road would remain closed until around 1pm.
They added: “Recovery is expected between noon and 1pm and the road is probably going to be out of action until then.
“There are diversions north-bound via the A897 and the A836 and south-bound from Wick via the A9 and A836 and A837 via Thurso.”
