A street in Aberdeen which was shut after a two-foot wide sinkhole opened up in the middle of the road has been reopened.

Chapel Street was closed by police at around 7pm on Thursday after the hole was reported by a taxi driver.

The road, which was shut between Thistle Steet and Union Street, is thought to have collapsed due to water ingress.

A taxi rank near the sinkhole was closed while council engineers repaired the damage but businesses were allowed to stay open.

Aberdeen City Council said on Friday evening the road had been reopened.
