Four people have been taken to hospital after a rush hour crash involving two vehicles in Aberdeenshire.

The crash happened on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie Road near Tyrebagger on Monday around 4.55pm.

A 48-year-old man and his 41-year-old passenger were travelling in a black Vauxhaull Astra before it collided with a red Vauxhall Corsa, being driven by an 18-year-old with a passenger, also aged 18.

The four were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with non-life threatening injuries while the westbound road closed for several hours before reopening fully around 9.30pm.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses and in particular a silver car which may have been in the area at the time.

Constable Tom Stables said: "Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are at an early stage and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.

"In particular we would like to speak to the driver or any occupants of a silver car that would have been exiting the unclassified Newhills road onto the A96 at the time of the incident.

"They may have information which could help the investigation and I would appeal for them to contact us.

"I would also ask anyone who has any information which would assist our investigation to contact Police Scotland on 101."
