A man has died after being hit by a lorry on a north-east road.

The pedestrian, who was in his 50s, was struck by the vehicle on the B9005 between Gight and Fyvie in Aberdeenshire at 1.50pm.

An ambulance was called but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours to allow accident investigations to take place.

A spokesman for the police said: “Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and the road is expected to remain closed for the meantime. Local diversions are in place."

Police said the victim's next of kin have been informed.
