The owners of more than 100 caravans destroyed in recent floods are now able to apply for government grants.

Ballater Caravan Park was devastated by extreme weather which hit the north east over New Year and Aberdeenshire Council has so far received more than 50 applications from owners.

Roads were swept away and dozens of people were forced to leave their homes in the wake of storms in December and January.

The Scottish Government has made grants of up to £1500 available for anyone whose property was destroyed.

A spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said: "Applications are now being accepted for the Scottish Government Flood Relief Fund from static caravan owners that suffered damage following the recent storms and flooding that struck Aberdeenshire in December and January.

"Aberdeenshire Council has received over 50 enquires and grant applications from the owners of static caravans and these are being processed."
