Eighty people have been evacuated from a North Sea oil platform damaged during a storm.

The alarm was raised when a clamp came loose from one of Brent Bravo's legs on Sunday.

It is believed to have been left hanging above a gas pipeline connected to the St Fergus terminal.

The Far North Liquids and Associated Gas System is the larger of two pipelines which supply the terminal and is connected to more than a dozen North Sea platforms.

Crews were airlifted off Brent Bravo on Sunday evening and flown to nearby Brent Charlie and Brent Delta.

A Shell spokesman added: “An incident occurred on Sunday evening on the Brent Bravo platform, located approximately 115 miles north east of Lerwick.

“Personnel on the platform were called to muster following damage to one of the structure’s legs. As a precaution, all non-essential personnel were moved to other nearby Brent platforms.

“Relevant authorities have been notified and further information will be provided as it becomes available.”
