A cafe where customers can pet and play with cats while they sip their coffees has opened in Aberdeen.

The Cat in the Window describes itself as a "kitty paradise" where diners can sample locally produced teas, coffees and cakes in the company of the resident felines.

The owners said: "The welfare of the cats is the most important factor for us, and so the cafe is set up to be a kitty paradise where the cats can be worshiped and pampered by fellow cat lovers.

"The Cat in the Window Cafe will be the most pawesome sanctuary for them to play in, fitted out with all the tunnels, boxes, scratching posts, dangling string, climbing apparatus, sunny window seats, and toys that you can imagine."

The opening comes in the wake of similar ventures across the globe. Tokyo is home to around 40 cat cafes, while the first cat cafe is said to have opened in Vienna in 1912.
