Care homes have been hit by a series of break-ins in Aberdeenshire.

Four homes in Fraserburgh, Sandhaven and Rosehearty were targeted between Sunday night and Monday morning.

The thieves got away with bottles of alcohol and less than £50 in cash.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "These are unpleasant crimes but I would like to reassure the public that they are a rare occurrence within our communities.

"We are treating the incidents as linked and I would urge anyone with information regarding these incidents to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

"I would also take this opportunity to remind all residents in the community to take every precaution to prevent themselves becoming a victim of crime.

"This includes securing your property and ensuring that all doors and windows are locked to prevent similar offences occurring in the future."
