The family of a 17-year-old killed in a road crash have thanked doctors who fought to save him.

Benjamin Waterfield died at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Sunday following the crash at 2.15am on Saturday.

Mr Waterfield was a passenger in the Citroen C2 which collided with the Seat Leon on the A947 between Dyce and Newmachar.

Two men, aged 23 and 19, and a 16-year-old girl remain in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, his family said: "We are devastated and heartbroken at the loss of Benjamin, a much-loved son, brother and grandson.

"We would like to thank all the emergency workers involved in the inquiry and would particularly like to thank the staff at the intensive care unit who fought just as hard as Benjamin did.

"We would request that our family be left as we try to come to terms with our loss. As a family we are thinking of everyone involved in the accident."

Officers have asked anyone with any information about the collision to contact them on 101.

Sergeant Neil Morrison added: "Our sympathy is with Benjamin's family at this sad time.

"While our inquiries are continuing, I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision and who has yet to come forward, or anyone who has any information, to telephone us as soon as possible."
