The family of a woman who died after a car crash in Aberdeenshire have spoken of their devastation.

Helen Thorley, from Oldmeldrum, was involved in a collision between a silver Volkswagen Jetta car and a blue Ford Fiesta car on the B9170 Inverurie to Oldmeldrum road at around noon on Sunday.

The road was closed for about six hours as a result of the accident.

The family of Ms Thorley, 50, who was driving, said: "We are absolutely devastated at the loss of our mum who was a much loved daughter, sister, aunt and friend. We will support each other as a family."

Police Scotland has appealed for witnesses as they continue to investigate the fatal crash.

Officers are urging anyone who saw either of the two vehicles prior to the collision, or anyone who stopped to offer help, to contact them on 101.
