Details of an inquiry into the killing of Aberdeen schoolboy Bailey Gwynne have been revealed.

The 16-year-old was fatally stabbed through the heart by a fellow pupil at Cults Academy on October 28 last year.

The multi-agency review has been commissioned by Aberdeen City Council, NHS Grampian and Police Scotland.

It aims to provide independent assurance that the circumstances surrounding the teenager's death have been reviewed and to make appropriate recommendations.

The review will seek to establish the relationship between Bailey and his killer, who was jailed for nine years on April 1, and examine the actions of social care agencies.

It will also seek to establish what lessons can be learned about the way local practitioners and organisations work to look after children in their care.

Its findings will be used to identify any changes needed within Aberdeen's youth justice system.

They will also be shared with the Scottish Government, who will determine if there are any wider issues for the whole of Scotland.  The review's findings are expected to be published in September.
