The death of a man in an Aberdeenshire town is being treated as unexplained, police say.

The 39-year-old's body was found in his home in the King Street area of Peterhead at around 5.30pm on Thursday.

Police cordoned off the street while they investigated the death and next of kin have been made aware.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Inquiries to establish the full circumstances will be carried out.

"As is standard, a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

"Next of kin have been made aware and no further details will be released until formal identification has taken place."
