A fire in a flat in Moray was started deliberately, according to police.

Police Scotland said the blaze at the ground-floor property on Low Street, Buckie, was being treated as wilful fire-raising.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 2.15am on Saturday.

Sergeant Stephen Carmichael said: "Following a joint investigation involving Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, we are treating this as a suspicious incident.

"I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time in question and saw anything to contact police as a matter of urgency.

" Likewise anyone with any information at all should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would like to remain anonymous."

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said that 13 firefighters and two fire engines from Cullen and Buckie were sent to tackle the flames.
