Coastguards and police are searching a river after a man disappeared from a fishing bothy in Aberdeen.

The man, who is in his 50s, was was seen by a member of the public at the Salmon Bothy fisherman's hut at the River Dee, near Riverside Drive, at around 10.50pm on Friday.

He also visited the Asda supermarket at Garthdee around an hour before according to officers.

Police have issued two low quality images of the man as they appeal for information.

Sergeant Emily Hesp said: "It has been several hours since this man was last seen and we have concerns for his safety.

"We want to establish where he has gone and, most importantly, that he is safe and well.

"I would urge anyone who has spotted a person fitting his description to contact police as a matter of urgency.

"I would also urge anyone who knows who he is to get in touch - any information at all could assist with our inquiries.

"Likewise, I would also appeal for this man to contact us to let us know he is OK."

The man is described as being around 5ft 8, of a medium build, with "straggly" shoulder length dark hair. He was unshaven and is believed to have a local accent.

When last seen he was wearing a waterproof dark green-grey jacket, blue jeans, and was carrying a black rucksack.
