A man has been arrested after the bomb squad was called out over an unattended rucksack in Aberdeen.

Police cordoned off a derelict football pitch near Bayview Court at 6.30pm on Monday after the bag was found.

Officers were seen guarding the area while they waited for an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Edinburgh.

The rucksack was found not to be a risk to the public and a man is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday in connection.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged in relation to a breach of the peace and is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today.

"It was a contained incident and there was no threat to the public."
