It's 6pm on Wednesday evening and you've just arrived home from work tired and hungry with a thirst for a refreshing cocktail.

While takeaway menus and websites can bring any cuisine to your home in mere minutes, the desire for a relaxing drink requires a little more planning.

If the fridge and cabinet is bare, the only way to fix yourself a drink is to pull on your shoes and pop to the supermarket.

The Orchid cocktail bar in Aberdeen aims to change that. Teaming up with restaurant delivery service Deliveroo, it has created the Spring Fix, a cocktail that can be ordered and delivered to your door alongside a pile of spaghetti or a juicy burger from your favourite restaurant.

"When you get home from work you don't really want to do anything during the week," says Orchid's Martin Farmer.

"For me, I order a takeaway because it's easy, so if you want a cocktail or a nice drink, you can order it and it comes to your house ten minutes later."

Approached by the restaurant delivery service to create a deliverable drink, the award-winning cocktail bar came up with the Spring Fix, a twist on a classic cocktail using the bar's own Porter's Gin, the first spirit to be distilled in Aberdeen in a century, Fino sherry and elderflower cordial.

"It's a twist on a London Collins," explains Martin. "It's a really nice long drink, it works well with tonic water, soda water, ginger ale or prosecco. It's refreshly lovely and light and a great pick me up."

Orchid has fresh batches waiting for customers to simply click to order, making 30 bottled cocktails at a time which they package up for Deliveroo riders to take to waiting customers to dress up with fizz or serve short over ice.

The cocktail bar is also catering for those looking to start a party with 70cl bottles of Porter's Gin ready to order alongside individual Fever Tree tonic water mixers.

An expanded cocktail menu is already in the works, with Martin devising a classic approach to cocktails on call, with Manhattans, Old Fashioneds and Bramble mixed drinks planned to join the Spring Fix.

Orchid may be the first bar in Aberdeen to offer cocktails on call but Deliveroo customers have been able to order bottles of wine or beer through the takeaway service since it launched at Zizzi and Byron Hamburgers, with the Adelphi Kitchen even offering champagne for delivery.

Each restaurant is responsible for securing off-sales permission with its local authority, with sales commencing within usual off-licence trading hours between 10am and 10pm.
