Firefighters in Aberdeenshire arrived back from a callout to find their own station ablaze.

The roof of Ellon Fire Station was smoking when the crew returned at around 2pm on Wednesday.

The blaze is believed to be connected to construction work under way on the Union Street building.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "Our crew at Ellon were out at an incident and upon arriving back at the station saw smoke coming from the building.

"There is construction work ongoing at the building at the moment and the roof is being re-tarred.

"The small fire was extinguished in under five minutes. Another crew were called out as a precaution but by the time they arrived the fire was already out. It's been brought under control."
