A burnt-out car found shortly after two lorries were stolen and torched is believed to be connected to the crime.

The HGVs, which were filled with alcohol and furniture, were taken from M&H Logistics on Craigshaw Road in Aberdeen at midnight on Monday.

They were found ablaze in a layby on the A97 south of Huntly, Aberdeenshire, at around 5am.

Later that day, a ruined silver Renault Megane was found in the Hazlehead area of Aberdeen.

Police now believe the car may be connected to the incident, which police described as a "well organised crime".

Detective inspector Stuart McAdam said: "This incident appears to have been a well organised crime with a significant value of property stolen and damaged.

"I would urge anyone who saw a Renault Megane motor car in the Hazlehead area around lunchtime on May 16 to contact the us as soon as possible.

"Please contact 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you wish to remain anonymous."
