A teenage driver allegedly reached 128mph on a 60mph road with three passengers in his car.

The 19-year-old has been charged over the alleged incident just on the A98 near Fraserburgh just after 5pm on Saturday.

Police Scotland carried out a series of speed checks on north east roads over the weekend as part of road safety exercise Operation Cedar.

Sergeant Rob Warnock said: "We are determined to do everything we can to make our roads safer and we would encourage all motorists to think about their actions whilst on the road and drive in a responsible manner.

"Because of repeated concerns from within communities, the safety of all road users and working to reduce the number of casualties on our roads remains a priority."
