The Press and Journal and Evening Express newspapers are in talks to move into Marischal Square in Aberdeen, it is understood.

The DC Thomson-owned publications are set to join the Marriott Hotel group and All Bar One when the building opens next year.

The Aberdeen Journals titles are expected to move out of the Lang Stracht to the £107m Broad Street development, near the Press and Journal's historic city centre home.

Staff were reportedly told about the proposal, which has not yet been finalised, at a meeting with senior management last week.

The move is expected to be formally announced next month.

Marischal Square has proved controversial amid claims it will have a negative impact on nearby landmarks Marischal College and Provost Skene's House.

The council sold the former St Nicholas House site to investors Aviva in 2014 and received around £1m for the site upfront.

A further £9m will be paid after two years and after 35 years the council can buy the development back for £1.
