A father-of-two has been named as the victim of a fatal crash on Tuesday.

George Wiseman, 49, from Whitehills died following the crash on the A947 Newmachar to Oldmeldrum road.

The family of Mr Wiseman said in a statement issued through Police Scotland: "We are absolutely devastated at the tragic loss of George, a much-loved husband to Jenny and father to son Gavin, 20, and daughter Olivia, 16.

"George worked at sea as a fisherman in Whitehills for years with his father Jamsie, and brother Eric, before latterly moving into the oil industry. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

"We would now request that our family be left as we try to come to terms with our sad loss."

The collision happened at around 3.55pm and involved Mr Wiseman's silver Mini and a southbound black Toyota Avensis.

The male driver of the Avensis was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact 101.
