A 17-year-old boy has died after being involved in a road accident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The teenager was driving a grey Honda Civic when it crashed on the A90 about a mile and a half south of Fraserburgh at around 3.10am. There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time.

Police Scotland confirmed he died as a result of the collision.

As a result of the accident the A90 has been closed from the Tesco roundabout at Fraserburgh to the B9032 junction leading to Memsie.

Sergeant Rob Warnock said: "First and foremost, my thoughts are obviously with the family and friends of this young man at this tragic time.

"I would appeal for anyone who might have seen the vehicle described in the moments leading up to the collision, or has any information about the incident itself, to contact police as we launch an investigation into what happened."
